Information for Umpires
Getting Started
To become an Umpire, you need to be at least Yr 9
All umpires have to have at least a New Umpire certificate. It is really easy, do it now!
Sign up with Netball NZ
Do the new player umpire module online - follow the step by step instructions.
Sit the test (online)
Download your certificate and send it to me - howickumpires@gmail.com
Practice
Get some practice in by joining teams during our preseason program (Jan-Feb) or training sessions.
Lets us know if you would like this arranged for you
Training
HPNC have umpiring sessions for new umpires. We will inform you of these dates
What happens on the day?
- Sign in at the Umpire window (downstairs, next to the cafe)
- On court: Check nails and jewlery
- Make sure the toss happens (paper,rock,scissors)
- Make sure thers is a scorer (we use the My Netball Manager app)
- Pick a game ball
- Play and enjoy!!
Support
We have umpire mentors to help you through all aspects of your umpiring journey.
You will be added to the Umpires Whatsapp/messenger group
Uniforms
You will be supplied with a club branded white T-shirt and Jacket.
Payment
Payments are paid in two installments - at the completion of the Competition Round and Championship Round
Progression of Qualifications
The progression of qualifications is:
- Centre Badge (awarded by HPNC)
- Zone Theory (exam 2 x a year)
- Zone Practical (awarded by an assessor, after you have achieved Zone theory)
- NZ Theory
- NZ C, NZ B, NZ A, International
